This is a seminar for knowledgeable, serious trainers (need not be
professional) who have a strong working knowledge of learning
theory, positive training methodology, and who are familiar with
Suzanne’s approach.
PREREQUISITES
- You must have attended at
least one 2-day seminar with Suzanne, and be familiar with her
Relationship Based Training approach. Please don't waste our
time or yours asking to be the exception. Just find a 2 day and
attend!
Attendance is a
prerequisite but does not guarantee acceptance.
- Everyone must fill out
this
application form
Acceptance/rejection by Suzanne Clothier of any application is
final.
- REQUIRED READING prior to the workshop:
Bones Would Rain from the Sky by Suzanne Clothier
A View from the Oak by Kohl (available thru Amazon & Canine Chaos)
Life Lessons from a Ranch Horse by Mark Rashid.
- ALSO
REQUIRED - A sense of humor!
This intensive trainers' workshop
is designed for active trainers who want to learn more about Suzanne
Clothier's Relationship Based Approach to training and the dog/human
relationship. This is NOT a beginner's seminar.
A good foundation in
training principles, dog behavior and learning theory is assumed for
all participants. This is for serious trainers, though you do not
need to be a professional.
STRICTLY LIMITED TO 30 ATTENDEES
This workshop fills quickly. The
specific focus is shaped in part by the attendees present, by the
dogs present and by anything new & fascinating from Suzanne's mind.
This
workshop will cover some or all of the following:
A holistic approach to the dog -
body, mind & soul, with an emphasis on understanding & reading
canine body language through live observation & video
 |
Assessing & understanding the physical dog, particularly
as it affects performance & behavior - note:
one full day will be spent on the physical dog. |
 |
Foundation of relationships - unraveling the problems
presented to find the
underlying problems that need to be addressed |
 |
Deepening Your Toolbox - exploration of various approaches,
techniques & training tools |
 |
Using the 10 Keys and "bottom up" thinking to get the
information you
need to help resolve problems |
 |
"Umwelt" - understanding life from the dog's perspective |
 |
Aggression - understanding & dealing with it |
 |
Hands-on Work with problem dogs |
 |
Effective but non-confrontational techniques for dealing
with problem behavior |
 |
Keeping the soul in training: how do you blend spirituality
and learning theory in a
meaningful way? Learning to trust
your "guts" and really listen with your whole being
to the
dog. |
 |
Lots more . . . you will laugh a lot, learn a lot, maybe
even cry a bit,
eat like a piggy,
and meet some of the best folks on the planet! |
Who Should NOT Attend? We strongly
discourage the following:
 |
Rigid, linear thinkers who want a tidy schedule of what will
happen when
and outlines for all sessions |
 |
Jargon lovers who want to label everything or OC purists who
live in the 4 quadrants |
 |
Punitive trainers |
 |
People without a sense of humor |
 |
Folks who want recipes (except for what we serve at meals -
we'll share those!) |
DOGS AT THE SEMINAR
Participants may
bring a dog; dogs with problems are welcome (provided they have not
seriously injured any human or another dog). However, you do NOT
need to attend with a dog to benefit, and in many ways, being
without a dog is easier. Do you have a dog/case study to present at
the seminar. Fill out this
form and email it to us for consideration.
Please note that due to
space limitations only dogs that are going to be worked with may be
in the seminar room. There is limited crating space adjacent to the
seminar room.
